Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to fund activities related to persuading political parties to adopt ambitious fibre plans in their election manifestos, and to hold an election year debate between ICT spokespeople as was done in 2005.
Project Budget:
$130,000 has been budgeted for the Broadband / Fibre Campaign project in 2008/09.
Overall Progress Summary (7 October 2008):
InternetNZ commissioned Network Strategies, an Auckland-based consultancy, to do the research set out in the RFP that was issued in June 2008. The draft report was received and a final version published in September, and InternetNZ commissioned Network Strategies to complete Stage 2 of the project. This will be ready late October/early November.
The Election Year debate branded as "TVNZ7 Internet Debate, in association with InternetNZ", occurred on 23 September at Avalon studios in Lower Hutt. The broadcast and chat format worked well and positive feedback was received from all quarters.
Activities Planned for October 2008:

Assist Network Strategies with Phase 2 report
- Publish transcript of Election Year Debate and transcript of IRC channel, for the information of the public.

Prepare questions for political parties seeking their policy positions on ICT/InternetNZ issues, and publish the results before election day.

- Meet with various stakeholders to discuss approach to fibre.

- Prepare draft campaign outline for May Committee meeting.
