Regulatory Issues and Submissions
(Links to Strategy 2: Advocacy and Public Policy)
Project Sponsor: David Farrar
Staff Support: Jordan Carter
Project Status: Active
Project Description:
This project is where reporting is done on submissions on issues that are brought forward by Parliamentary select committees, by independent Regulators (mainly the Commerce Commission), and occasionally other parts of government.
The budget provision is to allow for consultant expertise to be used by staff in developing submissions. Staff judgement, in consultation with the Public Policy Committee, is used in deciding where and when to apply resources, consistent with the strategy set out by the Executive Committee and/or Council.
Project Budget:
$40,000 in 2008/09.
Overall Progress Summary:
The main activity in October was to generate a response to the Commission's very good final paper on accounting separation issues. They adopted many of the suggestions that we presented in earlier submissions and the resulting paper is of very high quality. Defending these gains through the submissions process is very important in delivering proper levels of transparency for the industry.
