Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to keep tabs on the development of New Zealand's telecommunications and Internet industries, and resource InternetNZ's engagement in policy and regulatory debates. It is set against the background of InternetNZ's success in driving for the operational separation of Telecom NZ.
Project Budget:
$80,000 has been budgeted for the Telecommunications Reform project in 2008/09.
Overall Progress Summary:
In October, we began consideration of the submissions that were received by the Commission on its NGN consultation. InternetNZ needs a well developed framework to take forward to the NGN Conference in Auckland in February 2009. Further work continues on peering and IP Interconnect.
If a new government is elected in November there may need to be responses to new policies on telecommunications issues funded from this budget line.

- Attend TUANZ Telco Day II in Auckland (JC, RW).
- Background research and development of submission to the Commission's NGN study.
- Met with MED to discuss Rural Broadband Working Party framework and its implications for the Digital Strategy.
July 2008:
- Submission on Telecom Accounting Separation. (Transferred to "Regulatory Issues and Submissions".)
- Attended ACCC Regulatory Conference in Brisbane (JC).
- Completed Rural Broadband Working Party work and submit to government.
June 2008:

Attended Tel.Con.9 conference in Auckland.
- Prepared and lodged submission on Broadband Investment Fund criteria.
- Site visit to Whangarei to see Northland/Kordia initiative (JC).
- Progress Rural Broadband Working Party initiative, changed in light of Budget announcement and National Party announcements.
May 2008:
- Responded to government budget announcements.
- Attended TUANZ Telecommunications Day (8 May)
- Meet with various stakeholders to discuss approach to fibre.
- Attended Government's Broadband Investment Forum
